It has been a less than remarkable season for Central Coast Mariners. The only thing left to play for is avoiding finishing bottom of the table and the subsequent award of the wooden spoon that would follow.
To make sure of that they need just a point at home to Newcastle Jets on Saturday, but when you consider the fact that they have lost their last five league matches in a row then that is a feat that is easier said than done.
However, their opponents make the trip to the Central Coast Stadium having not had the best run of results as of late. Ernie Merrick’s men have lost their last three league matches, but this could well be explained by the fact that they have taken their foot of the gas what with a top-two finish long since secured.
The fact that they have a lost a trio of matches does perhaps not give them the best momentum going into the play-offs, but that is something that they can pick up once more with a win on the road this weekend.
