ROBIN HAASE
- Dutchman Robin Haase made light work of Slovakia’s Jozef Kovalik in his first match at Wimbledon to set up his second career meeting with Milos Raonic.
- The 32-year-old will also play in the men’s doubles draw with Denmark’s Frederik Nielsen but their first match will take place after this singles so fatigue should not be an issue.
- Haase’s chance at progressing further than his third-round exit back in 2011 are small in the singles but he is seeded 16th in the doubles and may well turn his focus to that if he goes down quickly to Raonic’s punishing serve.
MILOS RAONIC
- Big-serving Milos Raonic was a Wimbledon finalist in 2016 who reached a career-high ATP ranking of three that year and he has reached the quarter finals in four of his eight Wimbledon campaigns.
- The Canadian 15th seed struggled to break down India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the first set of their first-round tie but after a tie-break, went on to win comfortably in straight sets.
- Raonic hit 14 aces in his first-round match and once he finds his rhythm he is one of the best servers on the tour but his self-confidence has been called into question at times.
THE PREDICTION
Robin Haase had little trouble defeating his first-round opponent but former finalist Milos Raonic is a totally different prospect. The world number 17 is well on his way back to top ten contention after a 2019 record of 17-7 and five quarter-finals or above placings this year and he looks like he could go that deep in this tournament too. With big-servers like Raonic, there is always the possibility of an erratic set going the opponent’s way, but the Canadian should triumph.
