NOVAK DJOKOVIC
- Novak Djokovic had his serve broken in the first game of his first two sets against Germany’s Philip Kohlschreiber but he was never really in real danger and came through in straight sets.
- The Serb world number one has only failed to make it past the second round at Wimbledon once, back in 2008 where he lost to Marat Safin.
- Djokovic will face America’s Denis Kudla for the first time in his career and he should make light work of the world number 111 as he has not lost to a player outside the top 50 since Marco Cecchinato beat him at last year’s Roland-Garros.
DENIS KUDLA
- The USA’s Denis Kudla beat Tunisian Malek Jaziri in straight sets in the first round at Wimbledon to set up his first career meeting with Novak Djokovic.
- 26-year-old Kudla’s grass preparations were mixed as he did well to reach the quarter-final in Stuttgart but he could not qualify for Halle and lost in the first round at Eastbourne last week.
- The world number 111 has had a difficult couple of years at Wimbledon following a round of 16 exit to Marin Cilic in 2015 and three of his last six matches at SW19 have gone to five sets.
THE PREDICTION
Four-time and reigning champion Novak Djokovic got past a difficult first-round opponent in Philip Kohlschreiber, who had beaten the Serb earlier this year. He will now face Denis Kudla for the first time in a match that should offer less resistance than his first. Kudla is 8-15 for 2019 and while he has battled to some decent victories this year, the American will do well to lose by just the one break of serve per set.
