- The 31-year-old Frenchman has otherwise had an average year in terms of form with a 12-14 record to show for 2019 as he enters his 12th Wimbledon.
- Mannarino has had the misfortune of meeting Roger Federer last year and Novak Djokovic twice before that, and three of his last eight matches at Wimbledon have gone to five sets.
THE PREDICTION
This match offers a difficult choice between history and form, as former Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic has great experience for going deep in the competition while Adrian Mannarino won a title on grass just last month. They also share a 1-1 record, to complicate things, and have not played each other in two years. There might be some mileage in Mannarino’s penchant for a five-set slog, as Cilic is no stranger to a marathon match himself. This match has all the hallmarks of an ordeal and could indeed go all the way.
