- Lucas Pouille enters Wimbledon as the 26th seed after reaching the round of 16 at Queen’s and the quarter-final of Stuttgart last month.
- Pouille made the quarter-finals at Wimbledon back in 2016 where he lost to Tomas Berdych in straight sets and he has since been unable to replicate that success.
- Pouille holds a strong record over his fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet, having won their previous four meetings out of five overall with the most recent being in the final at Montpellier last year.

- Richard Gasquet chose Halle as his Wimbledon tuner this year but lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round to compound an average season by his standards.
- The 33-year-old is ranked 47 in the world right now with a 7-5 ranking for 2019 and he will be desperate to break his duck of exiting at the first-round stage of Wimbledon as he has done in his last two appearances.

THE PREDICTION
An all-French first-round match between Lucas Pouille and Richard Gasquet will provide some of the best match-play of the first few days at Wimbledon between two classy players. The 4-1 record Pouille holds over Gasquet speaks volumes for the outcome of this match, but the pair have never played on grass before and this looks a difficult set of situations to call. On his day, Gasquet can win here, but it seems to be his day less and less as the Grand Slams come and go.
