- Fernando Verdasco hit 12 aces in a straightforward 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 straight-sets victory over Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak, the same scoreline as his next opponent Kyle Edmund won his first-round match.
- The Spanish veteran is a clay-court aficionado enjoying good form in 2019 but he has not progressed past the first round at Wimbledon since 2015 where he lost to Stan Wawrinka.
- Verdasco has a solid 2-0 record over Edmund in their head-to-head record with a win each on a hard court and most recently on clay this year in Rome.
THE PREDICTION
35-year-old Fernando Verdasco joins Feliciano Lopez as a member of the Spanish old guard enjoying some late-career form in 2019, and he could be the cause of a Wimbledon upset here against the British number one in London. Kyle Edmund has failed to beat Verdasco on two previous occasions, this year and last, and will have to improve his performance by some way to beat the man 11 years his senior. Both matches between the pair have gone the distance at three-set events, so for want of a tricky prediction it might be safer to say that this match could see at least one extra set.
