KEVIN ANDERSON
- Kevin Anderson has had little success at Grand Slams this year after exiting the Australian Open at the second-round stage and not entering Roland Garros at all due to injury.
- Anderson reached his first Wimbledon final last year after a scintillating quarter-final win over Roger Federer, and hard-graft over John Isner in the semi-final.
- Despite being ranked number eight in the world, the South African is the fourth seed here as Wimbledon use a different system to the other slams and Anderson will believe he can go far again given that his serve is so effective on grass.
PIERRE-HUGUES HERBERT
- Herbert has embarked on plenty of grass-court preparation for Wimbledon having participated in three tournaments so far - Netherland, Halle and Eastbourne - so he will be fully adjusted to the surface by now.
- The Frenchman enjoyed a run to the semi-finals at Halle where he came unstuck against eventual champion Roger Federer and he has played some solid tennis since transitioning from the clay.
- This will be Herbert's sixth appearance in the main draw at Wimbledon with a third-round showing in 2016 his best result, and he is up against it here as he faces an opponent who went all the way to the final last year.
THE PREDICTION
Herbert has been playing well on the grass in the last couple of weeks but here he faces an opponent who is looking to emulate his run to the final last year. Anderson's serve was sensational last year, and while he has struggled with injury and form so far in 2019, a return to Wimbledon may well bring the best out of him. Herbert has been showing good form and is capable of taking at least a set but Anderson should have the weapons to see him through to the second round.
