  • Khachanov beat Roberto Bautista Agut in their previous meeting this year in Rome on clay but the Spaniard won their only grass encounter.
  • The Russian got to the round of 16 last year at Wimbledon where he promptly lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic, but he reached the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros this year to set his Grand Slam record.

ROBERTO BAUTISTA AGUT

  • Roberto Bautista Agut was in total control in his second-round match over Steve Darcis before the Belgian retired in the third set.
  • Bautista Agut has played Karen Khachanov five times before which is rare for a player of Khachanov’s age and leads a 3-2 head-to-head record.
  • The 31-year-old is something of a late bloomer and despite turning professional back in 2005 did not qualify until 2013 but hs since reached the round of 16 on two occasions.

THE PREDICTION

Roberto Bautista Agut is yet to be challenged at this year’s Wimbledon and has all the grit and determination needed to go deep in this tournament once things do get tough. He will play Karen Khachanov for a sixth time in three years, with a 60% win percentage over the Russian and crucially the history on grass. While the Russian got the better of Bautista Agut in their previous meeting at the Italian Open, the Spaniard won their only Grand Slam match back in January at the Australian Open and can emulate that here.
