- 35-year-old Verdasco has since pulled out of the men’s doubles with partner Pablo Andujar to give him more recovery time after his gruelling match with Edmund.

- Thomas Fabbiano is in the form of his life and at 30 years old is through to the third round of a Grand Slam for the fourth time in his career.
- Fabbiano has come through two very different challenges in five sets after beating 6”11 Ivo Karlovic in the second round and seventh seed Stafanos Tsitsipas in the first.
- The Italian should at least match his career-high ATP world ranking of 70 whatever happens in this third-round match as he is currently at 89.
THE PREDICTION
Fernando Verdasco came back from two sets and a break down to beat Kyle Edmund in a gruelling match, but luckily for him he faces a player in Thomas Fabbiano who has spent even longer on court so far. The Italian lost to Verdasco in Dubai earlier this year but his heroics at Wimbledon so far, and the exertions of Verdasco last time out, could see the Italian through. Especially as Fabbiano should garner most of the support having won over the Wimbledon audience with his enigmatic style.
