- Benoit Paire was two sets up in his second-round match with Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic before his opponent was forced to retire through injury, leaving the Frenchman some extra charge in his batteries.
- 30-year-old Paire reached as far as the round of 16 back in 2017 where he lost to Andy Murray in straight sets.

- Jiri Vesely’s emphatic Wimbledon campaign continued after he defeated Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas in four sets, again losing the first before rallying to win.
- 25-year-old Vesely came through the qualifiers before becoming the shock of round one where he beat sixth seed Alexander Zverev.
- The world number 124 lost to Paire earlier this year in India on a hard court but it remains to be seen how they perform on grass at Grand Slam level.
THE PREDICTION
Benoit Paire was the victor when he met Jiri Vesely in a professional match for the first time earlier this year, but the Czech qualifier is leading a charmed life at Wimbledon and should be feared by anybody after his dispatching of sixth seed Alexander Zverev in the first round. Vesely has conceded the first set before going on to win in his first two matches, so for want of separating a difficult match-up, a total of four sets looks to be the likeliest outcome.
