GERMANY
- Holders Germany qualified for the semi-finals by finishing top of Group B, having defeated Denmark and Serbia comfortably in their opening two games they were made to work hard for the draw against Austria in their final group encounter.
- Luca Waldschmidt increased his goal tally at the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship to five with a well-taken goal against Austria – his partnership with Marco Richter has been responsible for eight of Germany’s ten goals during the tournament.
- Germany are forced into making an alteration for this match at left-back as Benjamin Henrichs is suspended, his place will possibly be taken by Maximilian Mittelstädt.
ROMANIA
- Romania drew 0-0 against France on Tuesday to secure the point they needed to ensure they qualified as winners of Group C, they previously scored four goals against both Croatia and England in winning their opening two matches of the tournament.
- They have qualified for the semi-finals for the first time in their history in what is only their second appearance at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
- Having kept an unchanged team for their opening two matches against Croatia and England they made five changes for the game against France, for this match they are likely to revert to the same team as the opening two matches with the exception of Florinel Coman starting ahead of Andrei Ivan.

THE PREDICTION
Defending UEFA European Under-21 Championship holders Germany face a potentially tricky semi-final encounter against a Romania side who have impressed in making it through to this stage of the tournament for the first time in their history. Both teams were full of goals in their opening two matches before doing just what they needed to qualify in their final group games. With the attacking threat from Luca Waldschmidt and Marco Richter of Germany and George Pușcaș and Ianis Hagi of Romania there is plenty of reason to believe that there will be goals in this match. Germany are predicted to make it through to the final but they will be pushed hard against a Romanian side who can take great credit from their performances so far.
