THE TEAM NEWS

DENMARK

  • Denmark picked up an excellent 3-1 win over Austria last time out to give themselves an outside chance of reaching the semi-finals but that is contingent on Germany losing in the other game by a 2-0 scoreline.
  • Denmark defender Joakim Mæhle was the unlikely hero in that victory as he scored two goals in the win, and they will be motivated to pick up another win here regardless of the result in the other game as they seek to build on the Austria win.
  • Boss Niels Frederiksen will analyse the fitness of his team to assess who can start this game but it would be no surprise if they make some changes to give playing time to some of the fringe members of the squad.

SERBIA

  • Serbia have endured a difficult tournament so far having lost both games played and the heavy 6-1 loss to Germany last time out sealed their elimination and was a stark reality check at this level.
  • Skipper Andrija Živković managed a late consolation in that game from the penalty spot which at least gave their fans something to cheer and the focus on this final group game will be on trying to salvage some pride.
  • As they now have no chance of reaching the semi-finals, there is every chance that head coach Goran Djorović will make plenty of changes to give playing time to those players that have yet to feature in the tournament.

THE PREDICTION

Serbia are already eliminated and Denmark’s chances of reaching the semi-finals are extremely slim so there is little riding on this match in the final group game other than pride. Denmark have competed well and they will be confident of building on their win over Austria. Serbia on the other hand are low on confidence after being hammered by Germany 6-1 and with rotations likely for them, they may find themselves on the receiving end of another beating here.
