  • Northants have suffered four defeats in their opening five matches so they are resigned to playing for pride now as their chances of reaching the top three places in the North Group are pretty slim at this stage.

  • They welcomed Pakistan for a one-day match on Monday and that gave them the opportunity to have more time out in the middle and Josh Cobb took full advantage by hitting a career-best 146 not out from 145 balls so he will look to carry that form into this game.

  • The departure of West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder has hit them hard as they have struggled to replace him, while they will also look to bat first if they win the toss as they have struggled badly when chasing even modest totals in recent times.

YORKSHIRE

  • Yorkshire were comfortably beaten by Nottinghamshire at the weekend as the Outlaws knocked off the target of 214 in just 34.3 overs but that is the only match that the Vikings have struggled in as their points tally of just four from their opening five games does not reflect how well they have played.

  • The pressure is on Andrew Gale’s men here to get a win if they are to remain in contention for a top three spot and they are able to name an unchanged squad while they have added batsman Will Fraine to the 13.

  • Tim Bresnan was rested for the match against Notts but he will likely come back into the starting eleven with Duanne Olivier potentially the one to make way for him in the bowling attack, while their batting line-up is likely to be unchanged.

THE PREDICTION

The first half of this tournament has not been great for either of these two teams, but it is Yorkshire who will be the happier of the two in terms of performance levels. Northants continue to struggle in white ball cricket and that is as much a psychological issue as a lack of quality. Yorkshire have a chance of reaching the knockouts still and they have far greater quality in their ranks, and this match offers them the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways here.
