THE TEAM NEWS
SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS
Head Coach: Wayne Bennett
Starting 13: Johnston, Allan, Turner, Gagai, Graham, Walker, Reynolds, G. Burgess, Cook, T. Burgess, Sutton, S. Burgess, Murray – Interchanges: Tatola, Nicholls, Lowe, Knight – Reserves: Britt, Hiroti
Unavailable: Kurt Dillon, Adam Doueihi, Braidon Burns
- South Sydney were big winners over Brisbane in their grudge match last week as the Rabbitohs maintained their superb start to the year with the Rabbitohs only losing one game so far in 2019.
- The Rabbitohs avoided any injuries or judiciary charges last week and look set to go with the same 17 that has served them well recently although as has happened for the past five matches, there will likely be a late change.
- George Burgess is once again listed to start with Junior Tatola on the bench but are set to swap before kick-off with the Englishman coming from the bench in a week that has seen him linked with a move away from the club in 2020.
NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS
Head Coach: Paul Green
Starting 13: Kahu, Feldt, O’Neill, Tuala, Hampton, Asiata, Morgan, Scott, Granville, McLean, Cooper, Hess, Taumalolo – Interchanges: Baptiste, Dunn, Bolton, Molo – Reserves: Opacic, Wright
Unavailable: Murray Taulagi, Nene Macdonald, Te Maire Martin, Josh McGuire
- North Queensland came out on top against fellow strugglers Gold Coast last week as they were boosted by the return of Jason Taumalolo but face a much tougher test against South Sydney.
- In-form Josh McGuire looks set to miss several games after he suffered a calf injury last week which is a big blow to the Cowboys with Coen Hess coming into the run-on side and Mitchell Dunn taking his bench spot.
- In better news for the Cowboys, Kyle Feldt has recovered from the groin injury that has sidelined him all season and comes onto the wing with Justin O’Neill moved to the centres and Tom Opacic dropping out whilst John Asiata is preferred to Jake Clifford in the halves.
THE PREDICTION
South Sydney look set to push rivals Sydney Roosters all the way this season in what could be a brilliant race to claim the minor Premiership. They are 7-1 so far and have a great chance here against a struggling North Queensland to improve that record with the Bunnies able to win again. They have enjoyed the luxury of avoiding injuries this season which has seen them field a settled side consistently and has certainly helped them but it’s been a different story for the Cowboys who keep losing players. Despite last week’s win, they’re facing much tougher opponents this week and are likely to find it difficult with the Rabbitohs claiming the victory.
