THE TEAM NEWS

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS

Head Coach: Stephen Kearney

Starting 13: Tuivasa-Sheck, Fusitu’a, Hiku, Beale, Maumalo, Nikorima, Green, Paasi, Luke, Ah Mau, Blair, Papali’i, Tevaga – Interchanges: Burr, Lisone, Afoa, Harris-Tavita – Reserves: Pompey, Sao, Asyshford, Satae

Unavailable: Tohu Harris, Nathaniel Roache, Patrick Herbert, Karl Lawton

  • New Zealand Warriors could not hang on to a ten-point lead at half-time as they had to settle for a rare draw against Brisbane with a home game against out-of-sorts Cronulla next on the agenda.

  • The Warriors did not pick up any injuries or judiciary charges last week but despite looking like they would be able to recall Patrick Herbert this week, the centre will once again be unavailable.

  • Head coach Stephen Kearney has the luxury of naming the same 17 that claimed the point against Brisbane and has opted to do so for what shapes as another huge clash for the Warriors’ play-off ambitions.

CRONULLA-SUTHERLAND SHARKS

Head Coach: John Morris

Starting 13: Moylan, Feki, Xerri, Capewell, Gray, Johnson, Townsend, Fifita, J. Brailey, Woods, Nikora, Sorensen, Gallen – Interchanges: B. Brailey, Williams, Hamlin-Uele, Prior – Reserves: Magoulias, Flanagan, Kennedy, Mulitalo

Unavailable: Wade Graham, Josh Dugan, Josh Morris

  • Cronulla were outclassed by Melbourne as the Sharks lost for a fourth consecutive game with their play-off spot coming under threat as they dropped out of the top 8 at the expense of Penrith.

  • The Sharks' injury woes worsened as they lost Josh Dugan and Josh Morris during last week's defeat whilst Shaun Johnson also took a knock but the latter looks set to appear in the halves after he was named in the side.

  • In some better news for the Sharks, Paul Gallen and Matt Moylan are set to return with Moylan replacing Dugan at fullback whilst Kurt Capewell slots in at centre in place of Morris with Jack Williams dropping to the bench to accommodate Gallen’s return at lock.

THE PREDICTION

New Zealand Warriors head to Wellington to host Cronulla in what is a pivotal game for both teams. The Sharks have struggled of late and have fallen out of the top 8 as a result and as they continue to field a consistent side, they are likely to struggle again with the Warriors able to edge this. The home side are likely to field the same 17 as last week as they look to build some momentum towards the back end of the season to earn a play-off spot and a win here could go a long way to eventually earning a spot within the top 8.
