THE TEAM NEWS

CANBERRA RAIDERS

Head Coach: Ricky Stuart

Starting 13: Nicoll-Klokstad, Simonsson, Croker, Oldfield, Rapana, Wighton, Sezer, Papalii, Hodgson, Lui, J. Bateman, Whitehead, Tapine – Interchanges: Havili, Horsburgh, Soliola, Guler – Reserves: Williams, Hunt, Murchie, Collins

Unavailable: Joey Leilua, Luke Bateman, Hudson Young, Ryan Sutton, Nick Cotric

  • Canberra overcame a second half red card as they held off a St. George comeback to consolidate their position in the top 4 and they can further enhance those prospects as they return to home soil to face Wests Tigers.

  • Nick Cotric was given his marching orders for a spear tackle last week and the Raiders outside back will miss the next three games after he pleaded guilty at his hearing with the judiciary.

  • Cotric’s place in the centres is taken by veteran Michael Oldfield in what is the only change for Ricky Stuart’s men as they attempt to make it five wins from their last six matches in the NRL.

WESTS TIGERS

Head Coach: Michael Maguire

Starting 13: Thompson, Momirovski, Mbye, Marsters, Nofoaluma, Marshall, Brooks, Aloiai, Farah, Twal, Matterson, Lawrence, Eisenhuth – Interchanges: Liddle, Mikaele, Taylor, Chee-Kam – Reserves: Talau, McQueen, Garner, Clark

Unavailable: Mahe Fonua

  • Wests Tigers made it back-to-back defeats as they went down to Parramatta last week in what was a huge blow to their play-off hopes and now face an extremely tricky trip to Canberra.

  • Josh Reynolds has been conspicuous by his absence from the squad since returning from injury but his future has been cleared up this week after he was told he is free to leave the club and is set to leave at the end of the season.

  • Reynolds is unlikely to play for Wests again unless an injury-crisis strikes and will not feature for them again otherwise and he will be joined on the sidelines by Robert Jennings this week after he was dropped in favour of Paul Momirovski.

THE PREDICTION

Canberra bounced back from their disappointing defeat against Parramatta as the Raiders were too good for St. George despite going down to 12-men in the second half. They showed some great character to hold on following Nick Cotric's red card and should be able to win again here. Wests are very inconsistent but lack that bit of genuine quality throughout the side to challenge the top teams and with Canberra on a good run of form, they are likely to have too much and can continue their assault on a top 4 finish.
