THE TEAM NEWS
SWEDEN
- Sweden come into this round of 16 clash with Canada having finished second in their group behind USA who beat them in their final group stage match 2-0 and they were always chasing the game after conceding a third-minute goal.
- They played out a goalless draw with Canada back in March in the Algarve Cup but lost on penalties, although they will know that they are well matched against the North American team and lead the head-to-head record by 13 wins to five with four draws.
- They will look to key player Kosovare Asllani who scored in their opening two games against Chile and Thailand for inspiration here and while they have a better record than Canada in World Cup history, they know they will be in for a tough battle.
CANADA
- Similar to their opponents here, Canada finished second in their group behind the Netherlands and that was due to losing their final group stage match to the team that finished above them as they lost 2-1.
- Canada’s matches in the group stage were relatively low scoring as they impressed defensively in a tough group with two clean sheets in three matches, and the experience of playing in tight matches may benefit them in what is likely to be another close match.

THE PREDICTION
These two teams look well matched coming into this Round of 16 clash and there is very little to choose between the two teams on paper. Sweden have the edge in historical meetings but Canada will push them all the way. Neither side possess the same firepower as some other sides in the tournament and they are well organised so there is every chance that this match goes all the way to a shootout. European teams have really impressed so far and Sweden could very well just edge this but there is little to choose between the two sides.
