THE TEAM NEWS
NETHERLANDS
- The Netherlands have secured their place in the round of 16 with victories against New Zealand and Cameroon as they currently top the group ahead of Canada on account of having scored one more goal than the Canadians.
- A two-goal haul from superstar Vivianne Miedema helped the Dutch to a 3-1 win over a physical Cameroon team in their previous match and Miedema is now her nation's all-time leading goalscorer with 60 goals at the age of just 22.
- Although they have won both of their matches so far, the Dutch have not shown as much quality as they would have liked and believe they have plenty of improving to do if they are to progress far in the tournament.
CANADA
- Canada showed plenty of improvement in their play as they defeated New Zealand 2-0 on Saturday to make it two wins from two matches. They have secured qualification for the knockout stages for the first time in a World Cup held outside North America.
- Canada’s goal has been rarely tested so far during the tournament and they are the only side yet to concede a single shot on target, shutting out both Cameroon and New Zealand. They have also now kept a total of nine clean sheets in their last 10 games.
- Despite the fact that Canada and the Netherlands are level on points and goal difference, the Dutch have scored more goals which means that Canada need a win to claim top spot in the group.
THE PREDICTION
Canada and the Netherlands do battle to see who will finish at the top of Group E. Both teams have picked up two wins and are level on points as well as goal difference, but the extra goal scored by the Dutch means that they have the advantage in only needing a point to ensure they finish in first position. It is a pressure-free game for both teams but they both know they need to polish up on a few things if they are to progress deep into the tournament. Difficult to see much separating the two teams and a stalemate could well be the outcome here.
