- England put in another impressive display at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup as they progressed to the semi-finals for the second time in succession at this tournament where they will face the current holders.
- The USA lie in wait following the 3-0 victory over Norway with England taking an early lead through Jill Scott and Ellen White doubled the lead before half-time and the win was sealed thanks to a fine effort from Lucy Bronze.
- Phil Neville’s Lionesses have done very well to reach this stage and now have an air of confidence about them but know that a mammoth task awaits against the reigning world champions although he will be buoyed by being able to name his first-choice side.
USA
- USA moved a step closer to defending their World Cup title after they edged hosts France in a thrilling contest in their quarter-final clash to progress to an eighth-consecutive Women’s World Cup semi-final.
- Megan Rapinoe continued her fine tournament with a brace, her first to open the scoring inside the fifth minute before a second in the 65th minute but France pulled one back to make it a nervy final ten minutes for the Americans.
- They managed to hold on to set up the last four contest with England with coach Jill Ellis unlikely to make any changes to her side as the United States go in search of their fourth Women’s World Cup.

THE PREDICTION
The United States will be looking to become the first side in history to reach the Women’s World Cup final for a third consecutive occasion but England stand in their way. Only one team has ever defended their world title with Germany claiming back-to-back crowns in 2003 and 2007 but the USA will move a step closer to doing that if they can overcome England in their semi-final. The Lionesses have improved as the tournament has progressed and they will fancy their chances of ending the world champions’ reign but it will not be easy for them and the USA may edge what should be a brilliant contest.
