TAYLOR FRITZ
- Taylor Fritz upset number one seed Guido Pella in the second round as he won a closely-fought match 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals here for the first time in his career.
- That victory took the 21-year-old American to 3-2 on grass this year and he will now aim to reach his second ATP Tour semi-final of the season after reaching that stage in Lyon on the clay last month.
- Fritz has made 25 aces across his first two matches which has been key to his progression so far and his powerful serve will be his chief weapon against Hurkacz, who he is facing for the first time.
HUBERT HURKACZ
- Hubert Hurkacz overcame Steve Johnson 6-3, 7-6 in Wednessday's second round and he now faces another American in the form of rising star Taylor Fritz.
- The Pole's second-round victory over Johnson was a tight affair as he took the only break point offered to him in the entire match while his 76% first serve percentage was key to him not getting broken himself.
- This will be Hurkacz' third quarter-final on the ATP Tour this season having reached this stage on the hard courts in Dubai and Indian Wells but he was stopped in his tracks on both those occasions by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Roger Federer respectively.
THE PREDICTION
Two similarly ranked players in their early 20s meet in this Eastbourne quarter-final and this could very much be a case of the surface dictating the winner. Fritz' booming serve has been responsible for 25 aces so far in the tournament and if he can continue to find his rhythm, he will pose Hurkacz plenty of problems on the grass. Fresh from eliminating number one seed Guido Pella in the second round, the edge just goes to the American in this one.
