KYLE EDMUND
- Kyle Edmund received a bye to the round of 16 at the Eastbourne International where he will face his British compatriot Cameron Norrie for the first time in their professional careers.
- The British number one was unlucky to face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round of Queen’s Club last week and can go deep into this tournament as one of the outside favourites.
- This will be the 24-year-old’s fifth appearance on the south coast; he reached the quarter-final stage of last year’s tournament having beaten an injury-stricken Andy Murray at this stage.
CAMERON NORRIE
- Cameron Norrie beat Jeremy Chardy for the second time in his career to set up a round of 16 tie with compatriot Kyle Edmund.
- Norrie will have played both his singles victory over Chardy and a doubles match with his tournament partner Juan Ignacio Londero just a day previously when he faces Edmund on Wednesday.
- The British number two, behind Edmund, has progressed well at Eastbourne year-on-year and will equal his 2018 showing of a quarter-final place with a win here.
THE PREDICTION
It is a shame, from a British perspective, that Kyle Edmund and Cameron Norrie will meet so soon in the tournament with Dan Evans through to the same stage of the competition. Both players are still young enough to improve greatly and are both within the ATP top 50, with Norrie just sneaking in at 49. Norrie has been putting in some of his best performances on grass, with his loss to Kevin Anderson at Queen’s last week a close-run thing, and this first meeting between he and an intermittent Kyle Edmund is a difficult call. This match looks like it needs a deciding set to separate them.
