- The Frenchman is embarking on his fourth appearance at the Eastbourne International where he reached the final back in 2015 before losing to his conqueror at Queen’s, Feliciano Lopez.
TENNYS SANDGREN
- Tennys Sandgren began the year with an excellent ATP 250 title in Auckland but has since failed to capitalise on that early form.
- The 27-year-old American beat Alexander Bublik for the third time this year to qualify for the Eastbourne International in his first appearance at the tournament.
- Sandgren’s first Eastbourne opponent Gilles Simon defeated him in their only previous meeting last year at the Chennai Open on a hard court surface.
THE PREDICTION
Gilles Simon pushed Feliciano Lopez all the way in their Queen’s final and the fact that 37-year-old Lopez might still drop out of Eastbourne following his valiant efforts on Sunday will spur the Frenchman on to go one further on the South Coast with his old foe out of the way. He should have little trouble in dispatching Tennys Sandgren, whose straight-sets tournament title in Auckland back in January looks to be an anomaly in an otherwise bad year for the American.
