RADU ALBOT
- Radu Albot lost at the round of 16 stage to David Goffin at Halle last week as he prepares for Wimbledon by appearing at Eastbourne for the first time.
- Albot has little grass court experience at this level to speak of but he reached the third round of Wimbledon last year by defeating former British representative Aljaz Bedene in five sets.
- At 5”9, Albot registers as one of the smaller men at the top-end of the tour but his first Eastbourne opponent Daniel Evans matches him in both height and age at 29 years old.
THE PREDICTION
It must be said that on his day Daniel Evans is very good at almost beating anybody, but he has never really shown the grit and determination to get past a beatable opponent since his David Cup heroics back in 2015. Radu Albot got the better of him earlier this year in Florida in a final and on paper should be the favourite for this match. However, Evans’ two Challenger Tour titles, albeit at a lower level of competition, depict a player who thrives on home soil, and seeing as this is Albot’s first appearance at the tournament, Evans could well play up to the crowd.
