THE TEAM NEWS
VENEZUELA
- Venezuela put in a solid display to advance to the last eight of the 2019 Copa America as they were relatively comfortable winners over Bolivia which meant they finished in second place behind Brazil in Group A.
- The result meant the Venezuelans were unbeaten during the group stage with two draws and a win to their name with Darwin Machis getting his side off to a great start against Bolivia before he added a second later on and Josef Martinez rounded off the scoring in the 3-1 win.
- Venezuela have been consistent in their approach during the campaign and it would be a surprise to see them change things up at this point as they look to Saloman Rondon to lead the line against a shaky Argentine defence.
ARGENTINA
- Argentina overcame an incredible amount of pressure to secure the win to progress to the quarter-finals of the Copa America but bigger challenges than Qatar lie in wait for the Argentines.
- Lautaro Martinez’s early strike helped settle the nerves for Argentina but they only managed to put the game to bed in the 82nd minute when Sergio Aguero doubled his side’s lead to put his side through.
- After their best performance of the tournament so far, Lionel Scaloni may opt to name an unchanged side for this game but will still be hoping to find a way to get the best out of Lionel Messi.
THE PREDICTION
Argentina progressed to the quarter-finals of the Copa America but defeat here against Venezuela will be deemed a big failure. They will have it all to do against a side that have yet to taste defeat in the competition and the Venezuelans will fancy the chances, especially against Argentina’s defence. Lionel Messi will of course be key for Argentina but if he is kept quiet, Venezuela can claim the win and send Argentina packing.
