THE TEAM NEWS
URUGUAY
- Uruguay were unbeaten with two wins and a draw from their three matches as they finished at the top of Group C ahead of Chile, Japan and Ecuador.
- They had already secured qualification prior to their match against Chile but looked set to finish in second place until a late winning goal from Edinson Cavani gave them a 1-0 win and top spot in the group.
- The dangerous forward paring of Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez will be a real handful for Peru’s defence, they have both looked in good form during the tournament so far and have weighed in with two goals each.
PERU
- Peru qualified for the quarter-finals as the best third-placed team having finished behind Brazil and Venezuela in Group A.
- They drew 0-0 with Venezuela and defeated Bolivia 3-1 in their opening two matches but were comprehensively outplayed and defeated 5-0 by Brazil in their final fixture of the group stage.
- They are forced to be without striker Jefferson Farfan after he was ruled out of the rest of the Copa America tournament with a left-knee injury. Edinson Flores may come into the team in the forced reshuffle.
THE PREDICTION
Uruguay scored a late winning goal against Chile in their final match of the group stage to set up an easier looking quarter-final against Peru when they seemed likely to face Colombia instead. Peru will mainly rely on keeping defensively solid as they have failed to score in four of their last six matches. Possessing the deadly duo of Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez in their ranks, Uruguay can pose problems for any defence and with Peru having conceded five goals against Brazil last time out they will have spotted some weaknesses they can take advantage of, resulting in a place in the semi-finals for Uruguay.
