THE TEAM NEWS
QATAR
- Qatar have one point from their opening two matches in the tournament and are third in Group B ahead of Argentina by one goal on goal difference.
- Having drawn their first match against Paraguay, they looked on course for another draw against Colombia before finally succumbing to an 86th-minute winning goal from Duvan Zapata.
- Qatar have no big expectations as guests in the tournament but they have competed well in their matches against Paraguay and Colombia and now they face Argentina who are under heavy pressure to win following two disappointing results.
ARGENTINA
- Argentina have made a stuttering start to their 2019 Copa America campaign with only one point from their opening two games against Colombia and Paraguay but a win here though could still secure their place in the quarter-finals as one of the best third-placed teams.
- Having suffered defeat against Colombia on matchday one, they then trailed Paraguay in their second match before a controversial handball VAR decision gave them a way back into the game. The spot-kick was converted by Lionel Messi and kept their hopes alive although they were given an extra lifeline as Paraguay missed a penalty only minutes later.
- Against Paraguay, Scaloni opted for four changes to his starting XI from the team beaten by Colombia, including dropping Aguero and Angel Di Maria to the bench, though both were introduced in the second half and Aguero in particular made a positive impact and is likely to come back into the team.
THE PREDICTION
The pressure is really on for Argentina as they aim to try and salvage what has been a disappointing tournament for them so far. The quality of play from Argentina has been erratic with the coach seemingly not decided on what the best team and tactics should be. It’s hard to see a comfortable night for Argentina but they may just squeeze through to the quarter-finals although they are not looking like a tournament-winning team.
