THE TEAM NEWS
BRAZIL
- Brazil beat arch-rivals Argentina in a controversial affair as they moved a step closer to winning the 2019 Copa America and will now face Peru for that right as the hosts bid to take advantage of playing on home soil
- The Brazilians took the lead in the 19th minute when Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring following good work from Roberto Firmino and the pair were involved against as the former set up the latter for a goal of his own to seal the 2-0 win.
- After some disappointing performances in the tournament, Brazil showed some good signs against Argentina and may name an unchanged side although Everton’s place in the side is under threat after he was substituted at half-time in the semi-final.
PERU
- Peru progressed to their first Copa America final since 1975 as they comprehensively defeated Chile in their semi-final to move to within 90 minutes of securing what would be their third title.
- The Peruvians proved difficult to break down and despite Chile having some good chances to score, Peru did not let them find the back of the net as they sealed a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Edison Flores, Yoshimar Yotun and Paulo Guerrero.
- Flores is a doubt for the final after he picked up an ankle injury just five minutes into the second half of the semi-final and had to be brought off but he appears to be the only doubt for Peru who may name an unchanged side if Flores proves his fitness.
THE PREDICTION
Peru winning the Copa America would be a huge story in its own right but it would become even more remarkable when digging deeper into how they would have done so. They face hosts Brazil in the final which is a daunting prospect in itself but this is the side that defeated them 5-0 in the group stage with the Peruvians overcoming great adversity to reach this stage following that loss. It is a great achievement for this side to have made it to the final but it would be a huge shock if they managed another win with Brazil likely to have too much for them and that would see them lift the Copa America title for a ninth time.
