THE TEAM NEWS
CHILE
- Chile face Uruguay having won both of their previous group matches and they need only a point to secure top spot in Group C which would mean they avoid Colombia in the quarter-finals and have an extra day to prepare for a match in the last eight against Peru.
- Alexis Sanchez scored for the second match in succession as Chile defeated Ecuador 2-1 to make it two wins from two matches, with his match winning goal in the second half coming despite picking up an ankle knock in the first half.
- Chile coach Reinaldo Rueda will make a late call on whether to risk Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal with both picking up injuries in the win against Ecuador. It is thought that he will not take any chances with Sanchez, especially with qualification already guaranteed.
URUGUAY
- Uruguay have guaranteed qualification but need to win to finish in first place after they were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw against Japan in their second match.
- They were forced to come from behind on two occasions against Japan with a Suárez penalty and a goal from Giménez salvaging a point against the tournament guests.
- Already missing midfielder Matias Vecino who pulled out of the squad through injury prior to their second match, left-back Diego Laxalt is also expected to miss out after coming off injured in the game against Japan with Giovanni Gonzalez his possible replacement.
THE PREDICTION
Chile and Uruguay have both confirmed their place in the quarter-finals and the outcome of this match will decide who takes the top spot in the group with Chile needing only a point and Uruguay needing a win. Chile may be forced to take the side of caution when it comes to the fitness of Alexis Sanchez which might mean he is not in the starting XI for the game. Uruguay looked impressive in their opening match but they looked weaker defensively in the Japan match possibly due to the injury to Matias Vecino leaving less protection to the defence. A draw looks a likely outcome in this match and with both teams scoring six goals during the tournament so far, expect goals too.
