THE TEAM NEWS

BRAZIL

  • Brazil bounced back from their draw with Venezuela by thumping Peru in their final group match of the 2019 Copa America and that result ensured they progressed to the quarter-finals as Group A winners.
  • They now have the luxury of facing Paraguay – a side that have not won any of their games so far – thanks to goals from Casemiro, Roberto Firmino, Everton, Dani Alves and substitute Willian.
  • Competition for places is fierce within the Brazilian squad and although minimal changes are expected following the thrashing of Peru, Gabriel Jesus did not take his chance to shine in an unfamiliar role and could make way.

PARAGUAY

  • Paraguay managed to sneak into the last-eight of the Copa America despite failing to win any of their three group matches as they progressed on goal difference ahead of Japan.
  • The Paraguayans suffered a narrow defeat against Columbia in their final Group B match but by only losing by a single goal, they were able to advance as one of the two third-placed teams thanks to their draws against Qatar and Argentina.
  • They have a huge task on their hands to overcome hosts and pre-tournament favourites Brazil, especially after failing to win any of their group matches and they are unlikely to make many changes from their outing against Columbia.

THE PREDICTION

Brazil showed their attacking prowess with a 5-0 win over Peru to advance to the last-eight of the Copa America as Group A winners. They now face Paraguay for a place in the semi-finals with the only thing that should stop Brazil from progressing being complacency. Paraguay have yet to win in the tournament and will not relish a game against the hosts who will fancy their chances of another comfortable victory to move a step closer to lifting a ninth Copa America title.
