THE TEAM NEWS

PANAMA

  • Panama secured their place in the quarter-finals of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup with a solid victory over Guyana which was their second successive win of the competition and now face the USA to see who will top Group D.
  • The Panamanians were too good for Guyana with Abdiel Arroyo opening the scoring before an own goal saw them retake the lead before the break after Guyana had levelled with Erick Davis and Gabriel Torres rounding off the scoring for Panama as they claimed a 4-2 win.
  • After two good displays so far, Panama will not want to let up in their final group game as they attempt to progress as Group D winners and that should see minimal changes to their side as a result.

USA

  • USA were comfortable winners over Trinidad and Tobago as they ran in six goals to ensure their progression to the quarter-final stage of the Gold Cup with a game against Panama left to decide who wins Group D.
  • Aaron Long and Gyasi Zardes both scored braces in the big win whilst Christian Pulisic and Paul Arriola added further goals with the USA really turning it on in the second half with them scoring five goals in the final 24 minutes.
  • The United States will be looking to maintain some consistency within their side as they look to build ahead of the knockout stages but Michael Bradley is set to be rested with Gregg Berhalter in line to replace him whilst Daniel Lovitz should come in at left back.

THE PREDICTION

Both the USA and Panama have been impressive in their opening two matches and now face each other to see which side will top Group D. They will both take part in the quarter-finals but with the chance to finish as group winners on the line, this should be an entertaining game. Panama have arguably performed the better of the two teams so far and will pose problems for the USA but the Americans have the ability in the final third to do enough to edge this game and maintain their 100% record.
