THE TEAM NEWS

JAMAICA

  • Jamaica progressed to the semi-finals of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup with a narrow victory over Panama and now stand just one game away from a third consecutive final appearance with the USA the team standing in their way.
  • In a tight game, extra-time appeared to be on its way but the Jamaicans were given a chance to go ahead from the spot in the 75th minute and substitute Darren Mattocks duly obliged to send his side through.
  • Jamaica have altered their team throughout the tournament and whilst they should start playing a more settled side, it would not be a surprise to see at least a couple of changes once again with a lot depending if they line up with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system.

USA

  • The United States were massively below par and might consider themselves lucky to have progressed to the semi-finals of the Gold Cup following a tense affair with Curacao in which they were arguably outplayed.
  • Weston McKennie scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute but Curacao proved more of a challenge than the United States were expecting and they were nearly made to pay for their lacklustre effort.
  • The poor performance in the quarter-final clash may lead to coach Gregg Berhalter making changes to his side as he attempts to guide his team to the final with anything less than that deemed a failure.

THE PREDICTION

Jamaica will not be fazed by facing the United States in this semi-final clash in the Gold Cup with all of the pressure on the Americans. Having won the last meeting between the two in a friendly before the competition, they will try to use that experience to their advantage as they attempt to progress to their third consecutive Gold Cup final and ultimately, lift their first title. The USA head into this as favourites but Jamaica are capable of springing a surprise.
