THE TEAM NEWS

JAMAICA

  • Jamaica drew with El Salvador in their final group game of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup which was enough to come out on top of a competitive Group C and they now face Panama in the quarter-finals.
  • The stalemate against El Salvador was Jamaica’s second draw of the group stage and those results sandwiched a victory over Honduras which proved to be the pivotal result.
  • Jamaica do not seem to be able to settle on their best team and although the majority of their team are guaranteed of their place in the side, there are a couple of positions up for grabs in midfield.

PANAMA

  • Panama were unable to get the better of the USA in their decider in Group D as the Americans claimed a narrow victory to ensure they topped the group and consigned Panama to second spot.
  • In a closely-fought game, Panama offered plenty but fell to a solitary goal in the second half but their performance against one of the strongest teams in the tournament will give them plenty of belief moving forward.
  • The Panamanians made wholesale changes for the game with the United States as they search for their strongest line-up and with the competition now reaching the knockout stages, they will go with what they perceive as their best team here.

THE PREDICTION

Jamaica face Panama in what should be an entertaining clash in the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup. Both teams are capable of progressing and as they are fairly well-matched, it should simply be the case that the team that performs to their best should win the game. Panama won two of their group games and narrowly lost to the United States in the other and with them giving plenty of their squad game time, they should be refreshed and hungry in this encounter. Jamaica will pose problems but the Panamanians can claim a narrow victory.
