THE TEAM NEWS
CANADA
- Despite losing to Mexico 3-1 last time out, Canada know that if they equal or better Martinique’s result against Mexico then they will quality for the knockout phase and they will be extremely confident of doing that against Cuba.
- They were outclassed ultimately by Mexico in the last game but that was somewhat expected and they will not be phased by that as they come into this game against a Cuban side that has lost 7-0 to Mexico and 3-0 to Martinique.
- Arfield, Hoilett and Osorio were all left on the bench against Mexico to rest them for this match and for more combative players to play that game, but they should all return here as they will need their guile and creativity.
CUBA
- Cuba have struggled badly in the Gold Cup so far having lost their opening two matches – 7-0 to Mexico and 3-0 to Martinique as their confidence is extremely low coming into this final game against Canada before they return home.
- There were some positives in the first half against Martinique as they looked capable of holding their opponents goalless but a goal on the stroke of the interval saw them fall behind and the second half was something of a formality.
- They will not be able to call upon full-back Erick Rizo who was sent off late in the game against Martinique while changes will likely be on the cards regardless as some squad players get some game time in this match.
THE PREDICTION
Canada will not be too disheartened by the defeat to Mexico last time out as they will have been targeting the Martinique match and this one to pick up six points that would see them progress to the knockout round. They should have far too much quality for this poor Cuban side who will likely be under strength and rotate for this final game. With Canada able to bring some key men back into the side, they should win this comfortably and keep a clean sheet in the process.
