- Daryl Gurney has competed at the World Matchplay on three previous occasions and came close to making the final in 2017 when he was edged out 17-15 by Peter Wright in the last four.

THE PREDICTION
Daryl Gurney has established himself as one of the top performers in the PDC and his displays in reaching the semi-finals of the Premier League backed this up. Evans is a player on the rise and he has beaten Gurney on TV before but this is a longer format and the Northern Irishman can use his extra experience to good effect which should ensure his progression into round two.
