THE TEAM NEWS
UGANDA
- Uganda caused an upset in their opening game of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as they defeated DR Congo in Group A in what was their first win in this competition for 41 years.
- Patrick Kaddu opened the scoring for the Ugandans before fellow striker Emmanuel Okwi’s goal just after half-time doubled his side’s lead which they were able to then sit on for the rest of the game to claim a 2-0 win.
- The win for Uganda puts them in a great position to progress to the quarter-final stage and following such an impressive performance in their opening game, they should name an unchanged line-up.
ZIMBABWE
- Zimbabwe lost their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations as hosts Egypt got the better of them in their Group A clash thanks to a first half Mahmoud Trezeguet strike that ended up separating the teams.
- The Zimbabweans were fairly competitive, mainly as they managed to stay in the game right up until the final but they will need to improve in front of goal if they are to have a chance of progressing.
- With only two shots on target in the game with Egypt, they will be looking to be more creative in the final third against an inferior team that they faced in their opener but also have concerns at the other end of the pitch after goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda was forced off against the Egyptians.
THE PREDICTION
Uganda were impressive winners in their opening match of Group A as they took advantage of DR Congo’s lacklustre performance. They can now all but seal qualification with a win over Zimbabwe who were unable to overcome Egypt in their first game. Zimbabwe did well in spells against the hosts but will need to improve in the final third against Uganda or face elimination and with the Ugandans full of confidence, they can make it back-to-back victories.
