SOUTH AFRICA
- South Africa failed to make good use of the ball in their opening contest of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations against Ivory Coast as they succumbed to a narrow defeat to leave them with an uphill battle to progress.
- They struggled to create chances with them only managing to get two shots away all game and with neither of those on target, it highlights where they need to improve as they lost 1-0.
- The South Africans are not blessed with a squad full of superstars and must work hard as a team to turn around the defeat to the Ivory Coast which could see the same starting XI named unless coach Stuart Baxter deviates away from what he perceives as his best team.
NAMIBIA
- Namibia suffered late heartbreak in their opening game of the Africa Cup of Nations as a late own goal cruelly denied them of a point against Morocco to leave them in a tough position in Group D.
- An unexpected point would have given their chances of qualification to the knockout stages a big boost but they now face an uphill battle after Iitamunua Keimuine’s 89th-minute own-goal.
- Namibia were outclassed by Morocco but put up a good fight and managed to prevent them from scoring until the unfortunate own-goal but after working so hard, they may look to make some changes after the mentally-draining defeat.
THE PREDICTION
South Africa will have to improve in front of goal if they want to advance to the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations. They were poor in the final third, creating few chances and failing to test the ‘keeper in their contest against Ivory Coast and must now look to beat Namibia. It will not be an easy contest with Namibia proving they can be stubborn defensively in their game against Morocco but with plenty on the line, the South Africans should be able to edge this.
