THE TEAM NEWS

SENEGAL

  • Senegal were comfortable victors in their opening game of Group C in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as they made light work of Tanzania and will now turn their attention to a big clash with Algeria.
  • Keita Balde opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Krepin Diatta sealed the win with an effort in the second half in a game which the highest ranked team in the tournament dominated.
  • Senegal highlighted why they are one of the favourites to take the title and to further boost their cause, they will have Liverpool star Sadio Mane available for this game after he was suspended for his side’s first game after picking up two yellows in his side’s Nations Cup qualifying campaign.

ALGERIA

  • Algeria secured a good win over Kenya in their opening game of the Africa Cup of Nations as they highlighted their talent and the threat they can pose to the rest of the competition.
  • Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring from the spot in the 34th minute before Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez doubled his side’s advantage before the break as the Algerians claimed a 2-0 victory.
  • Algeria showed some great attacking flair throughout the game and despite playing with a good level of intensity, they have more in the locker that they will need to produce to get a positive result against Senegal in what is expected to be an unchanged line-up.

THE PREDICTION

Senegal will have more difficult challenges to overcome than they faced in their opening game at the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria lying in wait here in what should be one of the best games of the group stages. Both teams are capable of going into the final stages of the competition and this game may play a part in that with the winners set to top Group C. They were both comfortable winners in their first game but face much better opposition here and although this could be any result, Senegal can edge this one.
