THE TEAM NEWS
NIGERIA
- Nigeria were made to sweat but the three-time champions opened up their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a narrow victory over tournament debutants Burundi in their Group B clash.
- The Nigerians were the better team but struggled in front of goal against the lowest ranked side in the competition and had second half substitute Odion Ighalo to thank for his effort on 77 minutes.
- Nigeria were given a big scare before the game against Burundi with striker Samuel Kalu collapsing in his side’s final session on Friday but he has been cleared to return to training and could feature against Guinea.
GUINEA
- Guinea suffered a disappointing draw with Madagascar who were able to frustrate the Guineans in their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations which could hamper their progression out of Group B.
- Sory Kaba gave Guinea the lead heading into the break but two goals in a six-minute period in the second half saw Madagascar the lead before a Francois Kamano’s penalty levelled the scores.
- Guinea played well in large patches against Madagascar and will need to match the energy they played when they face Nigeria with Naby Keita pushing for a start after only appearing as a substitute in his side’s opening game.
THE PREDICTION
Nigeria claimed the win in their opening game of the Africa Cup of Nations but their performance will be a worry after just scraping past Burundi. They now face a Guinea side that drew their first game of the competition but may have the formula to pose Nigeria problems. They played with plenty of energy and although they failed to find a way to win, a similar level of performance will be tough for Nigeria to handle with Guinea able to claim at least a draw.
