THE TEAM NEWS

KENYA

  • Kenya twice came from behind against Tanzania before scoring a late winner to keep their hopes of progressing to the last 16 of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations well and truly alive ahead of a key game with Senegal.
  • After going behind in the early stages of the game, Kenya hit back before half-time but failed to stay level for long as Tanzania again took the lead but two second half goals put the Kenyans in front to claim a 3-2 win.
  • That victory put Kenya level on points with Senegal in Group C but are behind them by virtue of goal difference but know a win here will put them through although Francis Kahata’s place in the side is under huge scrutiny after he was substituted in the first half following another poor display.

SENEGAL

  • Senegal suffered a narrow defeat in their pivotal contest with Algeria and now need to beat Kenya in their final Group C match to ensure they progress to the next stage of the Africa Cup of Nations.
  • In a competitive contest but one that did not hit the heights that were predicted beforehand, Senegal fell short with Algeria sealing a 1-0 victory and they will need to improve in their final game if they are to progress after only managing to hit the target in the final 15 minutes.
  • Senegal will again be without Salif Sane after the ankle injury he picked up against Tanzania but he could return if his side progress to the last 16 whilst Ismaila Sarr will be hoping for a recall to the starting XI.

THE PREDICTION

The winner of the contest between Kenya and Senegal will advance to the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations. The loser will face an anxious wait to see if they can progress as one of the best third-placed teams whilst a draw would put Senegal through by virtue of better goal difference which would again leave Kenya with a nervous wait. Neither side have been particularly impressive so far and whilst Senegal boast the superior squad on paper, Kenya may be able to sneak a draw from this game although they will have to put in a good performance or the Senegalese can snatch it.
