THE TEAM NEWS
BENIN
- Benin earned a very creditable 2-2 draw against one of the pre-tournament favourites Ghana in their opening fixture in Group F and in doing so they picked up only their second ever point at an African Cup of Nations tournament.
- Mickaël Poté scored twice as Benin first took the lead and then came from behind to level after Ghana had a man sent-off early in the second half and it was Benin who came closest to snatching a winning goal.
- The draw against Ghana has given them hope that they can challenge to make the knockout phase for the first time in their history.
GUINEA-BISSAU
- Guinea-Bissau were defeated 2-0 by 2017 African Cup of Nations champions Cameroon in their opening fixture and are the only team without a point in Group F after the first round of group matches.
- They competed well against Cameroon during the first-half but were let off the hook a few times with wasteful finishing by their opponents. The second-half saw Guinea-Bissau fade as Cameroon scored twice in quick succession midway through to put the game out of reach.
- In a group also containing Cameroon and Ghana, this match was always going to be the one in which they felt they had the best chance of getting a positive result from.
THE PREDICTION
Benin picked up an unexpected point against Ghana in their opening match and they will be aiming to take the initiative here knowing that a win would put them in with a good chance of making the quarter-finals. They may have had some assistance by Ghana going down to ten men in that game but they showed enough positive signs to suggest that they have the edge over Guinea-Bissau, who struggled in the final third against Cameroon and have now failed to score in three of their last four international matches.
