THE TEAM NEWS
ALGERIA
- Algeria made it through to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations by winning qualifying Group D ahead of Benin, Gambia and Togo, and they come into the tournament unbeaten in their last six matches (includes friendly matches).
- They were the Africa Cup of Nations champions in 1990 but have only gone further than the quarter-finals on one occasion since then and have exited at the group stage of the tournament in two of their last three participations at the tournament.
- The Algeria attack with Riyad Mahrez, Sofiane Feghouli and Yacine Brahimi are well capable of causing problems for any defence at the tournament.
KENYA
- Kenya are back at the Africa Cup of Nations finals for the first time since 2004; this is their sixth appearance at the final tournament and they have yet to progress further than the group stage.
- They finished second behind Ghana in their qualifying group and recorded a notable 1-0 win against The Black Stars so they are a capable side.
- Kenya have a good defensive record in recent times with only two goals conceded in their last seven matches and they will look to keep things tight here.
THE PREDICTION
Algeria will be desperate for a good showing at the tournament having not made any real impact since 2010 when they reached the semi-finals, and they kick off their campaign against Kenya who are back at the tournament for the first time in 15 years. Kenya’s strength has been in their defence recently and they may look to try and keep things tight and frustrate Algeria. This may work for a while but Algeria should have enough guile to find a way through and one goal might just be enough to win the match.
