THE TEAM NEWS
ALGERIA
- Algeria were one of the most dangerous and consistent teams in the group stages of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as they progressed to the knockout stages with a perfect record after beating Tanzania.
- The Algerians were able to rotate their squad having already qualified for the last 16 before the Tanzania game but whether any of those fringe players did enough to force their way into the starting XI for this game remains to be seen.
- Two players who did their chances no harm were striker Islam Slimani and midfielder Adam Ounas who managed to bag a brace in the 3-0 victory to progress without conceding a goal in any of their Group C games.
GUINEA
- Guinea were given a big helping hand in their bid to progress to the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations as they defeated Burundi to seal a date with Algeria after finishing Group B in third spot.
- Burundi were reduced to ten men in just the 12th minute and Guinea soon took advantage of their extra man as Mohamed Yattara opened the scoring just 13 minutes later and he added a second seven minutes after the break to seal the win.
- The victory saw Guinea advance as one of the best third-placed sides but their task of progressing any further has suffered a huge blow with the news that Naby Keita will miss the rest of the tournament through injury.
THE PREDICTION
Algeria were one of three sides to win all of their group matches in the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations and will fancy their chances of a deep run in the tournament. They have one of the most talented squads in the competition and showed that they have good depth too having made nine changes to their line-up for their final game against Tanzania. With competition for places spurring the squad on, they will look to begin their knockout campaign with a solid display and they should be able to do that to claim a win over Guinea.
