THE TEAM NEWS

ST KILDA

  • St Kilda Saints lost their fourth game in a row as their season continues to unravel but for the first time on that run, they were able to keep the opposition below three figures despite losing by a hefty margin once again.
  • Any chance the Saints had of making the finals have disappeared with their record going from 6-6 to 6-10 over the course of the last four games which has seen them slide down the ladder.
  • They make two changes for this contest with Doulton Langlands named to make his senior debut with Matthew Parker also back in the side on the interchange bench but the Saints will be without Ben Long who is left out for personal reasons whilst Daniel McKenzie is dropped.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

  • Western Bulldogs made it three consecutive victories whilst they have also won four of their last five games as their rise up the ladder continues thanks to a win over Melbourne Demons last week.
  • The Bulldogs have propelled themselves into finals contention with their recent form and ended Round 17 just one win outside of the top 8 with this trip to St Kilda one they will relish as they attempt to continue placing pressure on the teams above them.
  • Toby McLean is out with a hamstring injury whilst Ed Richards is also a late withdrawal due to a knock and they are joined on the sidelines by Bailey Williams who is omitted but Tom Liberatore and Caleb Daniel are back from injuries whilst Bailey Dale is also called-up after an impressive VFL performance last time out.

THE PREDICTION

Western Bulldogs have the finals in their sights and another win here to make it four in a row will really put them right in contention. They could end the weekend within the top 8 if they win this game against St Kilda and other results go their way but the momentum they would take from four consecutive wins would leave them well placed to continue their climb up the ladder wherever they end Round 18. They will have to contend with a couple of injuries this week but with a couple of players also due back from knocks, they should be able to cope and claim another vital win.
