THE TEAM NEWS

GWS GIANTS

  • GWS Giants lost their third game in a row and must return to winning ways soon if they are to avoid sliding down the ladder and out of the placings for a finals spot but face a tough test here against Collingwood.
  • The Giants went down 94-67 to Richmond Tigers with that defeat prompting two changes to the side with Adam Kennedy and Matt Buntine omitted whilst a third change comes in form of Stephen Coniglio who is injured and likely to miss the rest of the season.
  • Shane Mumford has given his side a huge boost after recovering from a knee injury whilst Jeremy Finlayson is back in the fold after he was dropped last week and Jake Stein is also included.

COLLINGWOOD

  • Collingwood secured a brilliant victory over in-form West Coast Eagles as they ended Round 17 in second position on the ladder and will look to kick on from here as they try and put some pressure on league leaders Geelong Cats.
  • The Magpies have been given a further boost this week with the news that star duo Taylor Adams and Jeremy Howe are fit enough to return whilst Flynn Appleby and Travis Varcoe are also back in the side.
  • They replace injured quartet Darcy Moore, Jamie Elliott, John Noble and Levi Greenwood whilst skipper Scott Pendlebury is a doubt with a broken finger and James Aish is struggling with a shoulder complaint.

THE PREDICTION

GWS Giants need to end their losing streak quickly if they are to avoid placing themselves under even greater pressure with their spot in the finals looking far from secure. They host Collingwood who won an important encounter last week and will make it very difficult for the Giants. The home side will have Shane Mumford back in their side but Stephen Coniglio is a huge loss and his absence could contribute to a fourth consecutive defeat with Collingwood able to go back-to-back.
