But the 15-year-old has come alive in Zimbabwe, scoring his first half-century on the international stage and doing so in a typically whirlwind fashion. His knock of 50 off 19 balls led India to a seven-wicket win over Zimbabwe to begin this three-match series and end a run of six consecutive T20i defeats.
Zimbabwe were outclassed in game one across all departments, failing to put together a substantial total with the bat, before their bowlers were taken down by Sooryavanshi. The teenager’s confidence is only likely to grow from here and it would be no surprise to see him carry on his big-hitting antics in the second T20i.
