Yibling Wu is through to the main draw in Los Cabos after his opponent Bernard Tomic was forced to retire in their qualifying match due to injury. After a loss in the first-round of French Open qualifying to former Grand Slam champion Marin Cilic, Wu has played himself into some form, winning a Challenger event in Tyler and then following that up with a credible semi-final finish in Cary.
Tristan Schoolkate last competed at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, making the quarter-final as the third seed. That put an end to his grass court season, where he did pick up a title in Ilkley. He also won a Challenger in Brisbane at the start of the year. Schoolkate’s form has tailed off slightly in recent weeks.
Schoolkate is the higher ranked player but Wu will be full of confidence heading into this match, after some strong previous results. This could go all the way to a deciding set.
