We assess whether Man Utd’s Bryan Mbeumo (£8.0m) or Morgan Rogers (£7.0m) of Aston Villa will prove the wiser FPL pick heading into Gameweek 1 of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

On the back of a 20-goal Premier League campaign for Brentford in 2024-25, Bryan Mbeumo signed for Man Utd in the summer and will be looking to continue his goalscoring exploits at the Red Devils. A wide forward who is listed as a midfielder in FPL, Mbeumo boasted an xGi of 21.8 last season and should improve Man Utd’s offensive production.

Morgan Rogers served as a key part of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa attack, roaming forward from midfield and contributing 19 attacking returns in the Premier League with eight goals and 11 assists. His xGi of 11.7 was significantly lower than that of Mbeumo, but we don’t know how the latter will be affected by the role he plays for Ruben Amorim at Man Utd.

Mbeumo faces a formidable backline to start the season in Arsenal, whilst Rogers and Aston Villa face Newcastle at home. There are still question markets surrounding Mbeumo at this point and how he will be deployed by Amorim and for the reason, Rogers appears the more sensible Gameweek 1 pick at a cheaper cost.

Verdict: Morgan Rogers (£7.0m)
