Under the management of co-coaches Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim and Morten Jensen, Viking finished third in the Norwegian Eliteserien last season. The Dark Blues, as they are nicknamed, haven’t been in Europe since losing in the playoff round of this competition to FCSB back in the 2022/23 campaign.
They now face a Koper side that come into this one on the back of a 4-2 aggregate defeat of Bosnia-Herzegovina outfit Zeljeznicar Sarajevo in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League earlier this month. They shared a 1-1 draw in the first-leg before a 3-1 victory in the second-leg.
Koper were comprehensively better than Zeljeznicar in their previous round, but Viking have to be viewed as the overwhelming favourites for this first-leg.
