Bo Nickal: Highly decorated wrestler faces a real test

Bo Nickal (8-1) arrived in the UFC as one of the most decorated wrestlers ever to enter the octagon – a three-time NCAA Division 1 National Champion, a Dan Hodge Trophy winner, and a U23 World Champion. The hype took its first dent in 2025, when Reinier de Ridder thoroughly exposed him with shots to the body before finishing him early. Nickal has fought just once since, rebounding with a slick third-round head-kick against Rodolfo Vieira, though Vieira is a grappling specialist, not a striker. The question is how much we’ve actually seen outside of the favourable matchups, he even made it look relatively close against Paul Craig in their decision. Will he live up to the hype?

Kyle Daukaus: A different animal since his return

Kyle Daukaus (17-4, 1NC) looks like a completely rebuilt fighter. After running short of road in his first UFC run, being cut at 2-4-1, Daukaus reset on the regional scene, captured a CFFC title, and returned in style. He flatlined Michel Pereira in 43 seconds before submitting GM3 with his trademark darce in under a minute. A high-level grappler by trade, Daukaus has sharp hands, he stays long at range, mixes feints with accurate shots, and has shown slick boxing counters and a real finishing instinct. The one unknown is his cardio, given how little time he’s needed in the cage.

Bo Nickal vs Kyle Daukaus prediction

Nickal is a sizeable favourite, but this feels different from the matchmaking that built his name so far. Strip away the RDR loss and every opponent of his has felt hand-picked to showcase him, Daukaus doesn’t fit that description… On the feet, it’s hard to argue Nickal is the better striker, and he has less finishing power than the man across from him. The Vieira head kick aside, his recent outings have even drew boos and “overrated” chants from the MSG.

Bo is the superior pure wrestler on paper, but he hasn’t shown he can dominate MMA wrestling against a grappler of his calibre, and Daukaus won’t be giving up easy takedowns. If Bo can’t reliably take him down, and can’t clearly out-strike him, where does the win actually come from? Daukaus is carrying the momentum and the power to hurt Nickal, something that most of Bo’s opponents simply couldn’t do. Even if Daukaus fades late from his untested cardio, I see him banking the first two rounds. At plus money, I really do back Daukaus to derail the hype train once and for all.

Prediction: Kyle Daukaus to win
