THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Yuriko Miyazaki came through qualifying well last week to make her US Open debut and she beat Margarita Betova in straight sets to claim the most important result of her career. The Brit has nothing to lose in this seriously tough draw with former US Open semi-finalist Belinda Bencic, having already earned enough prize money to significantly improve her life on tour, but the 15th seed looks far too tough a test at this moment in time. World number 13 Bencic beat Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets to start strong in New York and she has reached at least the third round in each of her last three appearances here, including that last four exit to eventual champion Bianca Andreescu in 2019. The Swiss claimed her sixth and seventh WTA titles with some serious hardcourt form earlier this season and she should have too many weapons to suffer any sort of upset here. Take Bencic to win in straight sets.
